iPhone 14 – I finally caught up with Samsung

There are two kinds of individuals on this planet: those that absolutely love Apple products and those that think Apple products are overpriced and contain repackaged versions of technology already available from other Android firms.

In the event you fall into the latter group, you are probably wondering why Apple fans all the time rave about announcements of Apple technology “innovations” that look eerily familiar – because they were already available in other products released by other firms several years earlier.

Fast charging, larger displays, widgets, Apple Pencil, simply to name a couple of. And now with the iPhone 14, Apple is once more catching up with Samsung with regards to one selfie camera feature that has been available on Samsung flagships since 2017.

Ming-Chi Kuo, a famous Apple analyst, tweets that each one iPhone 14 variants will feature autofocus on the front cameras, which can provide sharper images at different distances. This is able to be a serious improvement over previous iPhones, which used fixed-focus selfie cameras.

As I said, this is just not something recent. Samsung introduced this feature within the Galaxy S8 5 years ago, in 2017. Apple is finally catching up with Samsung. Anyway, Kuo also mentions that Apple will increase the scale of the front camera aperture, increasing it from f/2.2 to f/1.9. This permits the sensors to capture more light, which should lead to higher photos through the day and in low light. This also ends in a shallower depth of field in your photos, which can make your photos and videos much easier on the eyes.

Going forward, we all know that the iPhone 14 Pro lineup will feature some design changes, namely an I-shaped notch within the display for the front cameras and a bigger rear camera module to make room for the brand new 48MP important camera sensor. However the design changes don’t end there. Based on fresh CAD renders discovered by Ian, the iPhone 14 Pro model can even get more rounded corners on each the body and display, making the radius of the display corners more closely resemble the radius of the rear camera corners. Interestingly, only the 14 Pro will receive this design change. For some reason, iPhone 14, 14 Max and 14 Pro Max are missing. Moreover, all iPhone 14 models will likely be available in a brand new purple color variant and interestingly, this purple shade will change depending on the lighting, which sounds pretty cool. Other color options for the whole iPhone 14 line will likely be displayed on the screen.

Given this, plainly Apple will likely be forced to incorporate a USB-C port in its iPhones, iPads and AirPods because the EU has moved a step closer to creating USB-C a universal charging standard. Members of the European Parliament overwhelmingly supported the laws (43 votes in favor and only two against) that might force Apple to change to USB Type-C in all its devices. Please note that it could take a while for the laws to be adopted, but hopefully it’ll occur sooner slightly than later.

Apple is making billions of dollars by sticking to the Lightning port because any third-party company using the Lightning port could have to pay licensing fees to Apple and that is why Apple stubbornly sticks to this charging solution. However the thing is, there are rumors that Apple will stop using ports before it’s forced to make use of USB-C, so it’s true.
